Cupping Therapy

Cupping Therapy

Cupping therapy involves placing cups directly onto the body to treat the soft tissue of the body. However, the cups are typically moving along the surface of the skin.

During the cupping therapy, we use the cups to treat the soft tissue of the body, muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, layers etc. We also use them to treat trigger points, areas of scar tissue and adhesions and also to promote lymphatic drainage. The cups are typically moving.

In Sports cupping we use the cups to stimulate the flow of the lymphatic system in the body. We are not working to affect the chi or meridians.

Cupping therapy is also used to help separate muscles fascial layers for example. To separate the vastus lateralis from the IT band or separate the different muscle departments of the hamstrings from each other.

The cups are used to isolate and treat points of scar tissue and adhesions. The shape of the skin in the cup will show us areas of spasm, adhesions or ischemia.

Watching for the colour of the skin will also indicate toxin levels, ischemia .

We will also use the cups directly over the trigger points to reduce areas of spasm.

As a general rule we will keep the cups moving, only leaving them to stand on one spot for a maximum of 3-5 minutes. We generally try to avoid leaving a red bruise on the areas as this has no benefit to our treatments.
